Great First Day 2017

A HUGE thanks to our departing vacationers for dropping off 893 lbs of food and other household 'left overs'.  Our partners at Sharon UMC / One Can Ministries have what you dropped off and will get it into the hands of our neighbors here in this part of Brunswick County!

And a special thank you to Mitch of Island Time Rentals for delivering a canopy to keep us and the goodies out of the sun!

2017 SEASON BEGINS TOMORROW...
Please don't forget the opportunity to help Second Helping and the Sharon UMC 'One Can Ministry' food bank when you check out of your rental tomorrow (Sat. 17 June) ... We'll be at the corner of Holden Beach Chapel parking lot and OBW...  from 7AM until 12 noon. We take all food stuffs, open or not. Cash donations also accepted and are used to purchase food. When the traffic gets crazy, you may leave our parking lot by circling around Town Hall to Jordan St and a right on OBW... all right turns to get across the bridge. Thank you!

2017 SEASON GETTING UNDER WAY...

A Second Helping is getting organized for the 2017 season.  We have given this season's info to our vacation rental partners, lined up our logistics with One Can Ministries / Sharon United Methodist Church and began to replace some of our tired food transfer coolers and tubs. Island Time Rentals has AGAIN agreed to provide us a canopy for our collection area. Next we will be determining the schedule for volunteers to work at the Holden Beach Chapel corner for the 11 Saturdays beginning June 17 and ending on Labor Day weekend.  Reminders will appear on the Friends of Holden Beach Facebook page each Friday morning.  Thanks to all for their support in the past and we look forward to seeing you this season!

A RECORD YEAR

This was our 12th year and our best so far......our collections totaled 25,084 lbs., a 21% increase over 2015, bringing our grand total to just under 200,000 lbs. since this ministry began in July of 2005.

From the wonderful publicity we have received from TV, newspapers, magazines and word of mouth, others have started similar programs along the coasts of North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as other vacation spots throughout the United States. Kudos to all for being so proactive in their endeavors.

And to the many generous and compassionate donors and the dedicated volunteers from Holden Beach Chapel and Sharon United Methodist Church, heartfelt thanks for making it all possible.

(Contributions can be mailed to "A Second Helping, 2212 Queens Road East, Charlotte NC 28207. 100% of all contributions are used to buy more food, 5 to 8 lbs. for each $1 received.)

OUR 12TH YEAR BEGINS....

With our collections totaling approximately 170,000 lbs. since this ministry began in July of 2005, we began our 12th year on June 18. And our departing vacationers, locals and others continue to "answer the cries of the needy" through their generosity and compassion. It's an amazing experience to be involved as a donor, volunteer, recipient or interested bystander. "Build it and they will come".

Another Successful Year!

"Build it and they will come", and that's what happened again for the 10th year at Holden Beach, and for the first year at Topsail Beach ("Friends Feeding Friends") and Emerald Isle ("A Second Helping"), all 3 in North Carolina.
